Block of the Month

BOM is finally here.

Tracy and I tested the pattern while at Zephyr on retreat. Tracy made sample blocks and I was in contact with The Material Girlfriends pointing out errors and getting corrections. We are now good to go. The blocks are a nice mixture of machine piecing, paper piecing and appliqué. Instructions for the July block pattern became available at our June meeting.

This year long project will include a monthly free download of a holiday/seasonal 12″ block. Download the block, sew it up, and then… you have two options.

  • First option, you can sew and quilt the 12″ block into a mini-quilt and display it in a stand or hanger.
  • Second option, sew the 12″ blocks and save all the blocks until the end of the year and make the “I Love Us All Year Long” quilt. (Center unit will be a $5 download on Etsy in December 2023.)

The “I Love Us All Year Long” quilt pattern was designed as a Block of the Month pattern. If you don’t want to wait each month for your free download, you can get the complete pattern at the Material Girlfriends web store, I Love Us. (Linda has a code so you can purchase the pattern at a discount of 55%, making it $17.50.) Otherwise, check in monthly to https://materialgirlfriends.com/2023-i-love-us-sew-along/ for your free download which will be available for 90 days. Additional tips or video instructions to help you with your block are available on the Material Girlfriends website. Tracy and I will also be available during our Sew-Along Zoom sessions on the second Saturday of the month to answer your questions and/or demo various concepts. Quilt size: 58” x 58”. All 12 months included in the one pattern.

For those who don’t like downloading from the internet, if you send Tracy your name and email address, she has offered to make a PDF file of the monthly block and send it out so that you can print that.
